Inventor of the Mailbox
Philip Downing invented the Street Letter Box, now called the mailbox. His mailbox was metal, had 4 legs, and introduced a way to protect mail from the weather and to keep it secure until it was picked up by the postman. Prior to his invention, people had to go into the post office to mail a letter.
